World Environment Day was established in 1972 as a celebration and organizational day to take better care of our planet.

Climate Change

• Temperature thresholds are about to be crossed which we will never be able to revert back from, causing glacier and ice sheet depletion.
• Rising sea levels due to glacier and ice sheet melting. Which are also causing droughts.

• Millions of tons of plastic pollution end up in our oceans and ecosystems every year.

• Habitats are being destroyed at an exponential rate, putting species at risk of extinction.

The main initiative that World Environment Day 2026 is trying to address is climate change.
